Stanley Casselman is a New York–based artist known for richly layered, highly precise surfaces inspired by a sense of awe for unseen spiritual forces that shape reality. His work blends emotion and structure, using abstraction to explore deeper truths and heightened awareness through color, line, and form.

Born in 1963 in Phoenix, Arizona, Casselman earned his Bachelor of Arts from Pitzer College. He began working with silkscreen while still in college in the early 1980s and is widely regarded as a pioneer of the medium. Using the screen—a grid resembling perfectly spaced fishing line—he developed innovative techniques, often painting on the reverse side. This approach allows him to manipulate pigment in unconventional ways, capturing and “freezing” energetic moments. The resulting imagery reveals what is typically hidden: the underside of a painting that would normally remain unseen.

Casselman’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at major institutions and galleries, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as Gazelli Art House in London and Baku and Brintz Galleries in Palm Beach. His works are held in prominent collections such as the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, the Flint Institute of Arts, and Borusan Contemporary in Istanbul.
